5 TIP TUESDAY: HOW TO SET THE TONE OF YOUR BRAND
Whether you own your own business or not; we all have a brand. Professionally and personally - how others perceive you, your company or your products/services, really makes a difference in your success. Good thing it's not difficult to build or maintain your brand, it just takes thoughtful action, consistency and a strategy for the audience you wish to appeal to.
Here are 5 tips on how to set the tone of your brand:
1. Decide who you want to be seen as.
Are you the best graphic designer in your field? or do you have a network that people could benefit from? It is better to focus on two to three key points than attempt to make the whole world love you. A good way to start is to think about whom you admire and pick the best qualities of your heroes.
2. Define your audience & get social.
If your business has an ideal client, you want to tailor your brand and online posts to appeal to them. Now a days, we meet people online before we do in person. Before posting to social media (if you aren't yet, get to it!) consider the type of voice and tone you want your audience to hear. Positive? Professional? Funny? Post strategically and accordingly. Social Media calendars are a great way to stay on top of posting regularly.
3. Overcome the self-promotion dilemma.
Self-promoting behaviour can be difficult at times and overdoing it can lead to people not liking you, or worse, not believing you. Be humble but also share your achievements from time to time. Don't be afraid to ask good friends and colleagues to promote you - tell them what to say and how to say it though (always keep your brand in mind!)
4. Take care of your appearance.

5. Be proactive.
Invest in yourself and in your brand. A couple of hours every week to enhance your reputation and build a body of evidence which establishes you as an expert in your chosen area will work wonders!
