How To Get Your Customer's Attention in 10 Minutes or Less
Newsletters are growing increasingly popular as a marketing tool for any business these days. A marketing newsletter is a document that notifies your customers about new products in your store, reminds them of your special discounts and guides them on how to create an account on your website.
Here are 5 ways to convince your customers to buy your product using a newsletter;
Be Concise
Consumers do not have the time to read or hear lengthy, text-heavy ads, in drafting a newsletter, it is key to keep it concise, your subject line should be about 30 to 40 characters which is about five to eight words. Current statistics show that the average attention span of a human plummeted from 12 seconds in 2000 to eight seconds in 2015. This means you have a limited amount of time to make your point to your customers before they stop reading.
Use Images
A picture is worth a thousand words; a clear well-placed image can serve as a reinforcement tool for your message. Show what you want to say, let the words tell your customers what you want them to know and your images will back up what you say. A good photo stimulates strong emotion. On many occasions people buy for emotional reasons. So the more you can stir your customer’s emotions the better, use a picture to do this the best.
Support the brand
It is important to ensure the newsletter is immediately recognizable and consistent with the brand. The newsletter needs to be a consistent reminder of who you are. Every newsletter you send out needs to match with your company’s distinctive image and speaking voice. When your brand is recognizable in the newsletter, it enables you to resell to customers who buy because they love and enjoy your brand e.g. you are an insurance company that promises the same price as your competitors but your customers appreciate your values, it is to your advantage to convey your brand through all of your communication channels including your newsletter
Have a call to action and feedback channel
After reading the newsletter, what do you want the recipient to do? Make a purchase? Test a product? Download? Or Reply? Whatever the desired action is, tell your customers what you want them to do. There should be a sense of urgency in your request, offers can be limited to a specific period of time or number of customers e.g. Shop Now, Buy Now to receive free shipping.
Proof read it
Check for grammar, spelling errors, signature, dates, times, and day-date combinations. Ensure that the order in which you write the day and the date is correct for your audience. A wrong time or even time zone can confuse your audience especially if they reside overseas e.g. If your audience resides in England, the day should be written first before the month, whereas in Canada, the month is written first before the day; 04/12/2016 is April-12-2016 for Canadian customers but for British customers it is December-04-2016. Endeavor to test every hyperlink; any of these errors can prevent customers from understanding what you are trying to say and thereby reduce your sales.
