The kidult in the room

Marketing is no longer about who you know, but it is NOW about what your clients are interested in more ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ than๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพever. According to Gary Veeโ€™s new book, Day Trading Attention, the algorithm of the most senior social media platform, Facebook, began as a automated way of ensuring you see more from the people you interact with the most (your friends). Now, your current Queen of social media platforms, TikTok, has an algorithm that is heavily influenced by the subject matter and types of videos you are interested in. The other social media apps dominating your phone have now followed suit.

Psychographics have slowly overtaken demographics as the primary method of understanding audiences for advertising since the 1960s.

Think: What does this mean for you and reaching your audience for your business?

Do: This means you have to double down on speaking to your customers about what they care about. Appeal to your niche! Your customer can relate to your brand when you share the same taste.

Marketing Trend: Kidulting

If you sell makeup for enthusiasts who just want to play and experiment, lean into bright colors and hardware pieces that fit together like puzzles or look like toy blocks.

If you sell music for fans of fantasy fiction, surely you can perform a rap based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

If you sell clothing include details and accessories that remind the customer of the feeling of playing โ€˜dress upโ€™ like a child.

Your brand can appeal to the adult who still feels like a kid inside. Speaking directly to the particular tastes of your customer could exponentially grow your profits, like it did for Lego over the last decade.

So give it a try, use the tools available to you to asses who your customer really is, what they like and who they would like to be. Your tools are: customer surveys, website analytics, social media creeping, customer interviews, industry research reports and behaviour tracking like cookies. Use these tactics to fully engage with the mind of your desired customer and what they might be most attracted to in their daily lives. Do not try to convince your clients to appreciate your product, you make a product to appreciate them.

When you are ready to modify your branding, your pitch and your specific tactical marketing approach just go here for help.
